Monthly Check-Ins

Written by Kristin Tallackson, M.A., LPC (OH), LPC-Intern (TX)

As many of us start the new year, we reflect on the previous year and formulate new goals and intentions for the year. Many will set weight loss and financial goals. This year, I challenge you to sit with compassion for yourself and give yourself little reminders of how each month was. We so often find ourselves at the end of the year saying things like, “wow, this year flew by” and “this year was over before it started”.

To counter this and truly become more present in this life I was given, I’ve compiled a list of questions to reflect on at the beginning and end of the month. Take some “you time” at the beginning and end of each month to reflect on what has happened. You can keep a journal, take a stroll through the park, or grab some tea or coffee at your favorite shop. Whatever you find is good for you, do that.

Start of the month:

1.     How am I feeling in the present moment? My mind? My body?

2.     How can I make my mental health a priority this month?

3.     What is taking up space in my life that I need to release? How do I feel about releasing it?

4.     How can I be more kind to myself this month?

5.     What are three things I am grateful for?

End of the month:

1.     What was challenging for me this month? What went well?

2.     In what way do I feel like I have grown this month?

3.     What did I let go of this month that was beneficial?

4.     What did I do to support my mental and physical health? What worked well for me? What didn’t?

5.     Did I cultivate gratitude and mindfulness this month?

Maybe you have other questions you’d like to add to the list and reflect on. What are some questions you would add?
